PETE FIRMAN

Norwich Playhouse, March 3, 14 (12 cons), 01603 598598, www.norwichplayhouse.co.uk

Following a fantastic run at last year's Edinburgh Festival, comedic conjuror Pete Firman has been getting five star reviews for his latest show Jiggery Pokery.

One of the leaders of the new breed of magicians — young, trendy and not afraid to break the rules — Firman has also been one of the new faces appearing in the second series of The Magicians, BBC1's prime time Saturday night hit.

Dressed in a tweed suit and skinny tie, delivering showman's patter with a Middlesbrough accent, the 31-year-old is charming, funny and adept at illusion and trickery. Expect amazing feats that defy logic, a fast and furious delivery of gags and astounding tricks that will leave you dumbfounded for days. 'I really get a kick out of seeing that amazed, astonished reaction from people,' he says. 'It's everything you put around the trick that makes it fun and entertaining.'

Following the success of her first show Bellylicious, professional belly dancer and comedienne Galit Mersand returns to Norwich with her long awaited sequel.

Her second show, Confessions of a Belly Dance Diva, pushes the boundaries further into delightfully delirious, deliciously deranged, deep and at times dark domain of the Belly Dance Diva.

With her new repertoire of dance, song and hilarious observations on life, relationships and the off-the-wall experiences of a belly dancer, Galit recounts her journey and tells you her innermost secrets, dreams and nightmares in a one woman show.

THE BOY WITH THE TAPE ON HIS FACE

Norwich Playhouse, February 29, 12, 01603 598598, www.norwichplayhouse.co.uk

Silent entertainment seems to be making a big noise at the moment. While French silent film The Artist is a hit at the box office and nominated for 10 Oscars, this off-the-wall silent comedy show has also been creating a lot of talk.

With his mouth sealed with gaffer tape, Kiwi comic Sam Wills, whose whole act is based on an inability to speak, uses every means at his disposal – sound effects, costume, pop music and playful business with the audience – in pursuit of wordless fun.

Think Chaplin, think Marcel Marceau, but Wills ranges beyond classic silent comedy. Yes it's old-school, but it's a delight to see great routines reinvented and invested with real personality. It's mime making noise, stand-up with no talking, drama with no acting. You'll, as they say, be lost for words.
