THE NEUTRINOS/SARGASSO TRIO/GIRL IN A THUNDERBOLT

Norwich Arts Centre, September 25

A great triple bill of local music talent. The Neutrinos, Sargasso Trio and Girl In A Thunderbolt, three of the most exciting local bands, join forces for a celebration of the best in Norwich music.

The Neutrinos have recently bewitched crowds in Canada, USA and Europe with their art-punk noise and energy. They are currently working on their third album, The Butcher of Common Sense, being recorded in Berlin.

The Sargasso Trio have just finished recording a second album of their 'calyptronic folk-pop' featuring acoustic synth-folk, Latin lovesongs, odes to the road and ballads of the sea.

Girl In A Thunderbolt has just released her debut album, Seven Sisters, which was recorded in Norway. Lead track Gun Squad was described as 'Psycho-burlesque-abilly with shimmering guitars and a commanding voice'. All three acts will play at least one cover version of songs by the other acts on the bill.

THE MAGIC NUMBERS

Waterfront, September 27

After two years away The Magic Numbers return with their sunshine harmonies and carefully-crafted indie. This date is part of a tour is in support of the band's new album, The Runaway, which was released through Heavenly Recordings in July.

With a nod towards 1960s harmony groups, but with a musical territory all of their own, the album features several string arrangements by Robert Kirby, renowned for his work with the likes of Nick Drake, Sandy Denny and Elvis Costello. It was the last Robert worked on before he sadly passed away in October 2009.

The Runaway is their third album, with the first two making the band, comprising two pairs of brothers and sisters, Romeo and Michele Stodart and Sean and Angela Gannon, who all attended the same secondary school, platinum-selling chart stars and produced hit singles like Forever Lost, Love Me Like You, Don't Give Up The Fight and Take A Chance. Support comes from Danny & The Champions of the World and Trevor and Hannah.

NME RADAR TOUR

Waterfront, September 28

The Emerge NME Radar Tour arrives in with The Joy Formidable and Chapel Club leading the charge. The gig is part of a 14-date tour that is the latest NME sponsored attempt to give music fans the chance to see some of the most hotly-tipped bands of the future before they make it big.

Female-fronted London-based trio The Joy Formidable spent last year building a feverishly partisan fan base with a string of singles, and two mini album releases on their own label, the studio-recorded A Balloon Called Moaning and the live recording First You Have To Get Mad. Their first single for Atlantic Records, I Don't Want To See You Like This, will be released on October 11, with an album to follow at the start of next year.

London-based five-piece Chapel Club have had heads turning since emerging last year with their live shows. Recent signings to the Loog label, Chapel Club are set to release a new single, All The Eastern Girlsm on October 11. Joining The Emerge NME Radar Tour will also be Flats and Wilder.

KANO

Waterfront, September 30

Promoting his fourth studio album, Method To The Maadness, his most accomplished, heavyweight offering to date, UK grime pioneer Kano, who has been slightly overtaken in the pop stakes by the likes of Dizzee Rascal, arrives at the Waterfront on his latest UK tour.

Kano - real name Kane Robinson - forged his skills amid the white heat of the emerging East London grime scene. Since his 2005 debut, Home Sweet Home, he has gone on to craft and release two more accomplished and adventurous studio albums, a trio of incendiary mixtapes and establish himself as a major UK talent.

Having returned to his roots in 2008's genre-specific street record 140 Grime Street, Kano has since put in blistering guest performances on Chase & Status's Against All Odds. In addition to his razor-sharp yet caramel smooth vocals, the album also features a star-studded supporting cast, including Hot Chip, Wiley, Vybz Kartel, Damon Albarn and Diplo, sadly, none of whom will be appearing with him here. There will be support from rapper Ghetts though.
