Dynamic performers with expressive voices and plangent harmonies, The Webb Sisters, multi-instrumentalists and songwriters with a reputation for enthralling live audiences, arrive in Norwich. Plus internet sensation Kina Grannis, Mostodon and boy/girl pop duo Girl 600.

KINA GRANNIS

Waterfront Studio, February 4

Kina Grannis, a 26-year-old Californian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, is the latest artist to be saddled with the dreaded label 'internet phenomenon'.

The imaginative video for her single In Your Arms, which was shot entirely using stop motion animation and more than a quarter-million jelly beans, has been viewed more than four million times on YouTube

In it the singer is lifted aloft by birds and balloons, is invaded by a worm jumping from an apple into her ear then emerging as a butterfly from her mouth, and even blasts through space in astronaut gear. All the kaleidoscopic backdrops were created using multi-coloured jelly beans, spread throughout 2,460 frames, filmed across 1,357 hours over a 22-month span.

Grannis is no stranger to viral success. She began posting homemade videos to YouTube in 2007, when she entered a competition to have one of her videos was played during the Super Bowl to massive US audiences.

Part of her prize was a deal with Interscope Records, but she wound up leaving the label without recording an album. She has since recorded several albums on her own. Stairwells, was self-released last year but has since been re-released on the independent label One Haven Music. Support comes from Imaginary Friend.

THE WEBB SISTERS

Norwich Arts Centre, February 6

Dynamic performers with expressive voices and plangent harmonies, The Webb Sisters — Charley and Hattie — are multi-instrumentalists and songwriters with a reputation for enthralling live audiences.

Their singing and playing — harp, guitar, mandolin, piano and drums between them — draws from the folk and pop traditions of both Britain and America.

The Kent-born siblings have recorded three albums, building a following on their travels, achieving album, single and record of the week on iTunes and Radio2. Latest album, Savages, was produced by multiple Grammy Award winning producer Peter Asher. They have previously toured with Jamie Cullum, Rufus Wainwright, Jason Mraz, James Morrison, Kubb and Katie Melua. They also received a invitation they couldn't turn down when they were chosen to join Leonard Cohen's live band on his first tour in 15 years. The pair backed the legendary singer at 247 shows played around the world between 2008 and 2010.

MASTODON

UEA, February 9

Atlanta-based rock-hard band Mastodon has never really done anything the 'conventional' way but their long and winding road to developing their sound brand of metal seems to be finally paying off.

The band formulated their own brand of highly-skilled hard rock over a decade ago when others were rehashing 1980s metal, and went on to mastermind a string of complex concept albums while much of the music world was centred on making digestible singles.

They have always eschewed the fashionable, preferring instead to develop their own brand of highly-skilled hard rock. Their latest release, The Hunter, is as high-energy, bass-deep masterpiece and is their best yet.

It follows the more modest success of previous outings Remission, Leviathan, Blood Mountain and Crack the Skye.

Though each consecutive album has transcended the one before it in terms of expectations, musical innovation and sales, The Hunter is the band's most ambitious to date. Guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds, drummer/vocalist Brann Dailor, bassist/vocalist Troy Sanders and guitarist Bill Kelliher continue to explore the outer limits of their own imaginations, delivering surprises — from demonic growls to melodic, close harmonies.

Support comes from Dillinger Escape Plan and Red Fang.

MISS 600

Norwich Arts Centre, February 9

Miss 600 is a duo from Derby — made up of singer Hannah Garner and musician David Amar — who produce sexy 1950s style jazz-pop sounds.

Their latest single, Typically Me, has been receiving heavy airplay on Radio 2. The station's love affair with the duo began with strong support for their debut single Twist which enjoyed an extraordinary seven weeks on the Radio 2 playlist — a rare feat for a relatively unknown act. That was followed by strong support their second single, Missing You, and a live slot on Chris Evans' show.

The duo were initially discovered at Derby's Ryan's Bar, the same venue where Brit Award-winning singer-songwriter James Morrison, was also spotted by major label scouts. They were offered a record contract after impressing producer Chris Bucknall.

All three singles were taken from their critically acclaimed debut album Buying Time. The duo have recently been in the studio putting the finishing touches to their as-yet-unnamed second album due out in April and no doubt they will be giving some sneak previews of the new songs at this gig.

Support comes from Norfolk's very own 1950s soul sensations The Testosta Tones and acoustic singer-songwriter Caomhe.
