A Poringland mother-of-three who recovered from breast cancer has held a coffee morning to help raise funds for charity and awareness of support groups.

Leanne Tink, 52, was diagnosed with cancer three years ago, but after undergoing a year of chemotherapy and radiotherapy she is fit and well.

She even ran the Race for Life before her final treatment as she began raising money for Breast Cancer Research.

Last year she raised £400 from a coffee morning and on Saturday she returned to the Methodist Church, in Chapel Field Road, Norwich, for another fundraising day.

For the event she was joined by fellow members of the congregation, members of the support groups she attends and her husband Barry and three children Daniel, 30, Laura, 28 and Hannah, 18.

There was also bring and buy stalls, cake stalls, home-made jewellery, photography and home-made cards on sale from friends and family.

Mrs Tink, who has been with the church since she was three, said: “It has been brilliant because it’s been so well supported. They were actually queuing up for the opening. I’m really pleased.”

She added: “I just want to raise money for breast cancer for future treatments and do whatever I can do.”

She also thanked all those who had helped make the morning a success.

“I would not have raised this money and it would not have gone ahead without them,” she said.

Mrs Tink was diagnosed with breast cancer after finding a lump, but said she remained positive throughout.

She said: “I coped really well. I was just positive and got on with it. I think some people have a worse effect to the treatment than others, but I was quite fit and healthy before, so I coped with it.”

While raising money for the charity during breast cancer awareness month, the event was also for post surgery and after breast cancer groups that Mrs Tink attends.

The post surgery group meets for badminton, aqua aerobics and yoga at the UEA on Wednesdays from 10am, while the after breast cancer group meets for exercise, coffee and chat at St Alban’s Hall, Grove Walk, Lakenham, on Fridays from 10am.

She said: “Everyone is really friendly.

“We don’t dwell on it but if you feel you want to talk, there are people there for support.”
