It was time to celebrate at a Norfolk school as it got some help from a well-known local author to open a brand new library.

Pupils and staff at Fairhaven Primary School in South Walsham have been anxiously waiting to get into their new library and last week they finally got to have a look around the new building.

Tom Blofeld, author of the fantasy children's BeWILDerwood books that inspired the popular fun park of the same name near Horning, was on hand to cut the ribbon at Fairhaven.

It is the top attraction of a week the school's pupils have been looking forward to for some time.

On Monday they were visited by children's book illustrator Marion Lindsay who, like Mr Blofeld, performed a reading for pupils.

Then on Friday the whole school was turned into a literary dream world as pupils and staff dressed up as their favourite character from their favourite book.

School bursar Jan Chambers said: 'We have got an excellent week of activities that we have all been looking forward to for ages.

'Marion Lindsay is related to one of our parents and is godmother to one of our pupils so is driving up from Cambridgeshire to give a reading. We have looked at some of her pictures and they are absolutely lovely.

'The old library was tiny and cramped but the new one is nice and new and is really light and bright, so the children can actually see what they are reading now!'

The new library comes as a result of direct capital funding from the government and is going to be a big improvement for the school, as Mrs Chambers explained.

'It will make a world of difference,' she said.

'It is a lovely light space, and it really encourages the children to go in there and read.

'It is a massive improvement and makes reading a lot more attractive to the children.

'The new building is not huge but we only have 108 children and we can fit all of them in there in one go now.

'That means we can do work in groups in there because there are lots of little chairs and mats.'
