A disabled man who has had to wait several months for work on his windows to be completed following Connaught's collapse could soon be about to have his nightmare brought to an end.

Justin Hunt, 33, was having the windows at his flat in Jewson Road, off Bullard Road, Norwich, being replaced when the firm, which carried out housing maintenance for Norwich City Council, went into administration.

The firm's collapse in September meant that the work on Mr Hunt's flat is yet to be completed. In the meantime, part of the building has had to be re-propped by an emergency contractor after brick work started to crack and drop during the initial installation work.

Mr Hunt, who suffers from ulcerated legs as a result of a hereditary condition, said damage to the property meant he has been unable to stay there for much of the winter as it has been too cold and too expensive to try to heat.

But Norwich City Council said a programme of works, being undertaken by Lovell as part of taking on a temporary contract, should start this month with Mr Hunt's property being a priority.

A council spokesman said: 'We have worked hard with temporary contractors to provide the best continuity of service that we can, despite the challenges we faced as a council when Connaught collapsed.

'If a tenant is experiencing any outstanding problems with works to their home, we urge them to get in touch straight away.' Mr Hunt, who will have to undergo an operation on his legs, said he was relieved to hear that work could be starting soon.

He said: 'I'm pleased to hear about that. It's been absolutely terrible. I couldn't stay there as it's been too cold and I've been staying with my dad. I just wanted it to be put right.'

Mr Hunt's father, David, 63, who lives at Pyes Yard, close to the Wig and Pen pub, said: 'There's no way he could've lived there when it was really cold.

'If we could get a date, even if it's in three months' time, at least it's something to look forward to.'
