A specially adapted disabled toilet for has been added into plans for a new car park on part of North Lodge Park in Cromer.

A campaign for the Changing Places toilet was launched on social media in recent weeks.

After seeing the support for the initiative online North Norfolk District Council's Cabinet member for assets John Rest asked for the facility to be included in the designs for the new toilets.

Mr Rest said: 'I'm delighted to say that we have altered our design for the new toilets to include a Changing Places toilet.

'It made sense to change the designs especially to help people with disabilities who are visiting Cromer.

'Visitors would be able to park in the new car park, make use of the Changing Places toilet and get easily down to the seafront.

'I'd like to thank campaigners for raising the issue and giving us the opportunity to provide a much needed facility in Cromer.'

Emma Spagnola, who started the Facebook group said: 'This is amazing news it will make Cromer more accessible for many, locals and tourists alike.'

A parish poll is due to take place on October 13 on the application for the 48 space car park.

North Norfolk District Council (NNDC), which has applied to itself to build a 48-space car park on the park's old tennis courts, is not bound by the result.
