After decades of speculation and waiting, a planning application has been lodged for a major overhaul of one of Norwich's eyesore sites.
Housebuilder Weston Homes - in conjuction with landowner Columbia Threadneedle - has submitted a planning application for the regeneration of Anglia Square, a project which would see more than 1,200 homes built.
The redevelopment would include a minimum of 120 affordable homes, along with retail floorspace allowing for around 40 retail units.
The site would also include a 200-bed hotel, roof-level bar and restaurant, and a leisure quarter centred on a replacement ground-floor cinema.
A multi-storey car park would provide space for 600 vehicles along with 75pc of the homes having residential parking.
Bob Weston, chief executive of Weston Homes, said: 'Historically, Anglia Square has been subject to several abandoned or stalled proposals. We are committed to changing this and providing a successful site for the future.'
