Dance enthusiasts in Norwich have danced their way to a world record by taking part in the longest ever Zumba session.

Starting at 8am on Sunday at Riverside’s Project nightclub, the epic carried on continuously for 12 hours until 8pm,

Organiser Sallie-Anne Sadler, 37, of The Avenue, Horning, said: “We got our world record for the longest Zumba session and we also got a second record, for the most number of dancers dancing for 12 hours with no break.

“All the instructors brought in their playlists and we had a DJ putting them together. The dance floor did not stop all day.

“We are all very tired but everyone had a fantastic day.”

To qualify for the record 20 people had to enter the dance floor every 30 minutes with each person dancing for at least half an hour, and in total 862 people took part.

Guest instructors from across East Anglia came to Norwich to take part in leading the mammoth class.

The event was adjudicated by Record Holders Republic, which has already handed out the certificate for the longest ever session and is currently preparing the other record certificate.

All money raised from the event, expected to be more than £2,000 is being donated to the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

Zumba is a Latin-inspired dance fitness program which includes aerobic elements and hip-hop, samba, salsa, and martial arts moves.
