Nursery rhymes and traditional tales is the theme as the village of Yaxham stages its fifth annual scarecrow festival.

The butcher, the baker and the candlestick maker plus Dr Foster, two little birds, three little pigs and six blind mice are among the colourful creations which have been springing up this week.

It is organised by the Friends of Yaxham Primary School and local people will be invited to choose their winning scarecrows at the school's autumn fair this Saturday, which runs from 12-3pm.

The afternoon also includes games, stalls, refreshments, competitions and prizes.

Liz Hollis, from the Friends, said: 'New scarecrows are going up every day and I'm fairly confident we'll reach 36, maybe even 40. This really is a fantastic effort by the village and we are very grateful that so many people, young and not so young, have entered into the spirit of the event so enthusiastically.'
