Thirty years of gymnastics history is in the balance for a Norwich club who are struggling to find a new permanent home.

Chermond Gymnastics Club, founded in 1980, has been showing off the skills of its pupils as the search for a much-needed new home steps up.

The club was originally based at the Norman Centre in Mile Cross before moving to Gurney Middle School on Ranworth Road, which remained its home until 2003.

It has since found temporary accommodation at Earlham High School, now named City Academy Norwich, but will again be looking for a new home next year. The club rewarded its pupils with some fun circus skills workshops this week as an Easter holiday treat ahead of its big annual show at the Great Yarmouth Hippodrome on Saturday, June 25.

Justine Dixon, spokesman for the club, said: 'We don't have our own premises and we are going to need a new home next year.

'We have been looking at two potential properties. One of them is definitely not going to happen but the other is looking quite hopeful so we really hope we can get something sorted.

'We've got a lot of very talented kids and have been going as a club for over 30 years so we really need to get somewhere sorted.'

Youngsters from the gymnastics club will be bolstering their circus skills further by learning tricks from professionals next week.

Fourteen lucky pupils have been invited by circus entrepreneur Gerry Cottle, who owns Somerset-based Wookey Hole, to take part in his workshop for a week.

All of them are aged 10 to 16, and are set to take part in the scholarship deal from this Monday to Monday, April 25. The invitation came after Mr Cottle saw gymnasts from the club perform in their annual circus production at Great Yarmouth Hippodrome last year. Ms Dixon added: 'The children are so excited. They have been working on their circus show all this week and will be able to improve their acts immensely next week with the fantastic coaching they will be getting.

'They will get the chance to do all the main show acts, such as aerial acts and hoop work, with seasoned professionals.'

Barford Van Hire has donated the use of a minibus so the group can attend the workshop.
