In the second part of our A-Z guide to spending time with your family this autumn, Emma Harrowing takes a look at new kids cookery classes to taking a trip to the zoo.

Now is the time to get back to basics and teach your kids how to cook. Why not spend a Sunday afternoon teaching them how to make bread, scones and cakes or get the experts to give them the lowdown? Ooooooooo and ahhhhhhhhh – it's coming up to that time of the year when there are many firework displays taking place in Norwich. Sparks in the Park takes place at Earlham Park and the Norfolk Showground will also be putting on its annual firework spectacular once again. There are also many smaller community run events taking place on and around November 5.

Pop into the Puppet Theatre this autumn as there are many exciting events and shows taking place for all the family. Rapunzel and the Tower of Doom is a 45-minute show that takes the traditional fairytale and turns it on its head – quite literally! There are two showings on Saturday, October 6 at 11am and 2.30pm. Quaint streets in Norwich can provide an afternoon out with a difference. Peruse the shops on Elm Hill before seeking sustenance in one of the cafes and tearooms. You can also visit the bears in the bear shop and if you are lucky with the weather, it could be perfect for a teddy bears' picnic near the river.

Race around one of Norwich's historic parks. Autumn is a great time to wrap up warm, kick up the leaves and play on the swings and slides. If it is windy enough why not race around the large green at Waterloo Park and fly a kite or take part in the Autumn Wildlife Session on Saturday, October 13 between 10.30am and 1pm at Eaton Park. Organised by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust the sessions are great for children and families wanting to learn more about the great outdoors.

Steam models, stationary engines, vintage tractors, cars and motorcycles will make any vintage vehicle enthusiast's dream on the weekend of October 6 and 7 as Pensthorpe Wildlife and Gardens is hosting its first vintage rally. Perfect for all ages the rally will also include model boats and craft stands.

Take to the sea at Blakeney Point and take a journey to see the seals. Bishop Boats are one of the many local boat companies who take regular trips out to the protected nature reserve and if you are lucky you will see the seals lazing on the sand and some even come up to the boat.

Understand the history of Norwich. There are many museums in Norwich that will take you on a nostalgic journey back to the past. Bridewell Museum is the latest addition to the fold with its revamped museum which houses vintage shoes from the days when Norwich was a shoe-making city, a Norwich Speedway bike from the 1960s, a working pharmacy and a 1950s living room.

Vintage make-up classes are the perfect mum and daughter event. Learn how to create retro looks at one of the monthly Lips 'n' Flicks workshops by Norwich's Historical Sauces. The workshops take place on the last Sunday of the month and alternate between make-up and hair. Watch a movie blockbuster. When the weather takes a turn for the worst take yourself and your family off to watch one of this autumn's top new films. Tim Burton's new film Frankenweenie is a spin on the Frankenstein story but with a bolt-necked dog rather than a man. The animation sees stars including Martin Short, Catherine O-Hara and Winona Ryder voicing the characters and is comically dark in true Burton style.

X Extreme sports are gaining popularity after the London Olympics and Paralympics put fitness back on the map. The climbing wall at Open in Norwich is open on Saturdays between 11am and 1pm for families to have a go at negotiating the best route to the top. It's free to have a go but children need to be seven years and older to book call 01603 763111.

You're never to old to take to the ski slopes, especially as snow tubing is one of this year's hottest new sports. Snow tubing involves you sitting in a rubber tube and sliding down a ski slope. Sessions are available at the Norfolk Snowsports Club in Trowse on Thursdays through to Sundays at selected times. A one-hour tubing session costs �10 per person.
