Person injured after reports of falling scaffolding at Norwich Bus Station

An area of the station, on Surrey Street, was closed on Tuesday afternoon.

It came after reports that scaffolding had fallen from a development overlooking the site.

An ambulance was called after one person was injured.

A spokesman said: 'We were alerted to an incident at the Bus Station in Surrey Street Norwich, shortly after 3pm today (Oct 16).

'One person was injured but did not require ambulance transport.'

Police were called to the incident after fire service requested for traffic control, but this was not needed.

One person said there had been 'quite a bang' when the incident happened.

A spokesman from RG Carter said: 'We are aware of an incident involving a small number of scaffolding poles coming loose at our St Stephens site.

'We take the incident extremely seriously and are currently working to establish what happened.'

Three fire crews - one each from Carrow, Sprowston and Earlham - were called to the station just after 3pm, where they made the scene safe after scaffolding fell.

A spokesman for the fire service said: 'Crews were called to access what had happened after a loud bang.'

They have since left the scene.

Konectbus tweeted to say part of the site had been closed, and advised passengers to listen to updates from the station.

Bus services have not been affected.
