Abbie Holgate, owner of Darcy’s Beauty and Nail Emporium, based in Thorpe St Andrew, decided she wanted to support people living with dementia as well as raising awareness of the charity Dementia UK.

Yesterday Mrs Holgate and employee Kayleigh Stanley spent the morning at Broadland View care home in Thorpe St Andrew, followed by the afternoon at Whitehall Lodge care home.

She said: “We are donating our free time to go down to two local care homes offering treatments to those living with dementia. We are doing this not only to give these people something lovely to look forward to before
Christmas, but to raise
awareness for the charity, Dementia UK.

“Every year we try and do something for a chosen charity; this year we chose Dementia UK. We have a lot of clients whose families have dementia. I’d like to thank Kelly Rix from Dementia Friendly - we couldn’t have done it without her and from Darcy’s we’d just like to say thank you for all the support the community have given us.”

Today Mrs Holgate will be holding an event for her customers as a thank you for all the support throughout the year, where there will be a raffle, all proceeds will go to Dementia
UK.

Karen Wright, manager at Whitehall Lodge care home, said: “It was lovely to have Abbie and Kayleigh here, they set up a little area and our residents were really looking forward to it.

“Our staff will paint residents’ nails, but it’s nice to have someone professional come in and do it. The gentlemen had their hands massaged, so everyone was given the opportunity to have something done.

“Around 16 people had a pamper treatment, which was great, it’s a really good experience for residents, and it’s good for people from outside the care home to come in.

“Abbie and Kayleigh were talking to the residents, which is great to see, and a huge benefit is that they are raising money for Dementia UK. They’ve made our residents feel special and we’re grateful for that.”
