Norfolk County Youth Orchestra will be performing a lively programme featuring American composers and Latin rhythms at St Andrew's Hall on Friday.

The concert will include: John Williams' The Mission, which was made famous as the theme for America's NBC news programme; Aaron Copland's Billy the Kid; Frederick Delius' La Calinda, which was inspired by the Florida sunshine; and West Side Story composer Leonard Bernstein's Candide Overture.

After a short interlude from George Gershwin with Walking the Dog, the concert will move south for some Latin American rhythms with Conga Del Fuego by Arturo Márquez, and Robert Sheldon's Danzas Cubanas.

Juliet Rickard, director of Norfolk County Youth Orchestra, said: 'It's a fun and inspiring programme, and the concert is a chance for people to see young people doing something very difficult very well.

'Norfolk County Youth Orchestra is about young people joining together to enjoy making music and working hard to achieve a very high standard. They are all like-minded students who are all musically very talented.'

Last April the orchestra performed at St Andrew's Hall with world renowned pianist Stephen Hough, and more recently accompanied Irena Josifoska, who was voted the most promising young musician in Serbia 2014, in a performance of the Elgar cello concerto at West Road Concert Hall, Cambridge.

The concert is 7.30pm on Friday at St Andrew's Hall in Norwich.

Tickets cost £10 (concessions £5 and under 16's free) and can be bought on the door.
