Being among the best in their chosen field is surely something that all children hope to one day achieve and a Norwich lad has done just that.

Charley Tedds, from Bowthorpe, has received the highest award that a St John Ambulance Badger can attain, the Super Badger Award.

The 10-year-old, a member of the Clover Hill Badger Sett in Bowthorpe, has spent the past four years working his way through 12 subjects to get to the much coveted Super Badger level.

Charley is fully trained in first aid and able to deal with emergencies such as heart attacks, choking and bleeding.

He has been a very active member and apart from the organisation's two residential weekends each year, he lists the Entertain and Adventure badges as his favourites.

Charley's Super Badger certificate and limited edition Wade pottery badge was presented by Norfolk's county Badger leader, Linda Sweeney, at Clover Hill's summer presentation.

Charley said: 'I have loved my time at Badgers and learnt lots of important things, like how to save a life. I am also looking forward to moving up to Cadets soon so I can go out on first aid duty at local events.'

Also awarded at the presentation were the Badger Adventure and Global certificates and badges as well as Cadet Child Development and On Duty certificates. An 100 hours duty hour certificate and Bronze Award were also presented to other youngsters in the group.

Linda added: 'Charley has worked really hard to reach the Super Badger level and it was a pleasure to present him with his award.'
