Norwich United were denied the point that would have all but guaranteed their Bostik League North survival when visitors Heybridge Swifts scored a late goal to win 2-1 at Plantation Park on Tuesday night.

An 87th minute winner from Ryan Henshaw means the battle for survival will go to the final game of season if bottom side Romford win their game in hand this Wednesday.

The visitors took the lead seven minutes before the break after a free-kick from the left was headed on to the crossbar by Luke Callander. As the ball rebounded it pinballed around the goal area until James Baker netted from close range.

The Planters were level 15 minutes from time, Adam Hipperson picked the ball up inside his own half, spotted Danny Sambridge off his line and drilled a shot into the wind and over the keeper to send the home faithful wild.

Just as it looked as though Steve Eastaugh's men had won a hard-earned point, up popped Henshaw, heading home a corner at the far post with just three minutes remaining.

The Planters must now wait and see if Romford, who are five points behind them, can win at home to Grays Athletic to keep their rivals sweating.

United: Johnson, Hitch, Barker, Jones, Wones, Watts, Mackie (Rose 46), Applegate (Cooper 88), Stewart (Pollock 78), Jackson, Hipperson. Unused subs: Carey, Wilton. Attendance: 101.

Meanwhile Dereham Town ended a long spell without a win at Aldiss Park by beating Waltham Abbey 2-0 in their final home game of the season.

A slip by defender Daniel Rimmel let in Danny Beaumont who progressed and beat the approaching keeper with a firm drive to open the scoring in the 39th minute.

The Magpies soon increased their advantage after the restart when Jamie Forshaw's 18 yard effort was blocked and fell kindly for Beaumont who confidently slotted home his second. Waltham skipper Billy Holland later received a red card for comments to the referee.

King's Lynn Town remained in second place in the Evostik League Premier Division after play-off rivals Kettering suffered a surprise 3-2 home defeat against Tiverton.

The Linnets lead them by three points with both teams having one game left to play and the Poppies having a marginally better goal difference.
