A city centre opticians has been broken into for the second time in a week - but the thieves' haul of designer sunglasses are useless because they have dummy lenses in that don't offer UV protection.

Dollond and Aitchison in Castle Street was broken into between 5.30pm on Friday, June 18 and 8am on Saturday, June 19, just a week after it was targeted in another burglary.

Thieves broke into a window of the premises and took over 80 pairs of designer sunglasses and a small bag of change.

However, The Evening News understands the sunglasses all have dummy lenses in without optical UV protection, so they're essentially useless as sunglasses as they'll still let the sun burn your eyes.

The burglary comes a week after thieves took over 100 pairs of designer glasses frames and contact lenses from the optitions, between 5.30pm on Saturday, June 12 and 8.15am on Monday, June 14.

A Norfolk police spokeswoman said: 'Officers from the City Centre Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) are looking for witnesses to two burglaries which happened within a week of each other at Dollond & Aitchison opticians on Castle Street in Norwich.'

A spokeswoman for Boot's Opticians, the parent company of Dollond and Aitchison, confirmed that an incident occurred at the opticians store and said they were currently assisting the police with their enquiries.

As reported, after the first burglary customers had to have their eye tests transferred to a sister store, and those who had made an appointment for an eye test were transferred to Boots.

Police have released CCTV images of possible suspects in both burglaries.

In the first the suspect is white, aged about 25, and he appeared to be using a silver and blue framed mountain bike. In the second offence one of the thieves is described as white, about 23, and he again used a silver and blue framed mountain bike. There may have been two other thieves in the second offence, again both white and aged about 23.
