In the glow of the moonlight, a different side of Norwich comes to life.

Bars bustle with early evening chatter, people settle down to enjoy meals and venues start to fill up before shows – from live music to theatre and comedy.

This week, the 12-week City of Stories campaign, which aims to promote the Fine City by sharing its tales, is focusing on the city's nightlife.

And as part of the project, organised by Visit Norwich and sponsored by groups including Norwich BID, people are being encouraged to enjoy the wealth of nightspots on their doorstep.

The city is well-served when it comes to restaurants, and that choice is at its best in the evenings.

A tempting menu and choice of more than 100 wines can be found at The Last Wine Bar, stylish Pinocchio's brasserie serves Mediterranean cuisine, while Namaste India in Opie Street is an intimate Indian vegetarian restaurant that serves food bursting with flavour and spices.

And after a meal, diners are spoilt for choice for entertainment.

There is the Theatre Royal or the Norwich Playhouse, a former Georgian maltings on the riverside.

Film lovers have a choice of four cinemas, including a VUE and an Odeon, but if you want something a little different and with heaps of character, then head to Cinema City, an art house cinema on St Andrews Street.

For live music, larger venues include The Waterfront and Norwich Arts Centre, while the crypts of Bedfords and Take 5 resound with underground music.

A short taxi trip to Sprowston Road and The Brickmakers offers a popular venue for local musicians and tribute bands, and regular karaoke or open mic nights.

Laughs aplenty can be had at the Red Card Comedy Club at Carrow Road, where Michael McIntyre and Milton Jones have performed.

And in the summer months there is even more on offer – with the Norfolk and Norwich Festival taking centre stage in May.

A nighttime stroll by the river, with the water reflecting the city lights and medieval architecture, offers a tranquil option for a quiet evening.

But at the opposite end of the scale is the city's club district of Prince of Wales Road and Riverside, where venues include trendy Mantra and Polynesian themed Lola Lo.
