With just eight shopping weeks until Christmas, now is the time many people are thinking about what could be the perfect presents for their loved ones.

Adults can be especially tough to buy for, and so, as part of our new Shop Local for Christmas campaign, the Evening News has asked some local shops to highlight some of their favourite products to help people find the ideal festive gifts.

From flowers to jewellery and hampers to scarves our fine city's independent retailers have come up with a diverse ranges of goodies to give you inspiration.

As we all know, shopping closer to home and supporting independent traders is a great way to help the local economy, so this Yuletide shop local and help make it a great Christmas for our local traders.

There has been an excellent response so far to our new Shop Local for Christmas campaign in which you could win �1,000.

To be in with a chance of winning pick up a Shop Local 'passport' from stores displaying the Shop Local sign.

They are also available from our office in Rouen Road, Norwich, or can be downloaded from the Shop Local page on this website.

Make sure you have your 'passport' when you visit local stores. When you spend �10 or more in a participating shop you receive a stamp on your 'passport'. Collect 10 and send your completed 'passport' to Shop Local, Prospect House, Rouen Road, Norwich, NR1 1RE.

Your name will be entered into our draw and one reader will collect �1,000 just in time for Christmas. You have until Friday, December 17, to collect your 10 stamps. 'Passports' must reach us by Saturday, December 18, and the winner will be announced in the Evening News on Wednesday, December 22.

'Table decorations, possibly with candles, make lovely gifts. The traditional festive holly and berries with cinnamon for scent are often popular, as are amaryllis vase arrangements.

'Festive hand-tied arrangements are nice gifts too in a seasonal box or gift bag, and poinsettias are also very popular at Christmas.

'We tailor-make all of our floral displays to give them more of a personal touch.'

'We sell quite a lot of turquoise jewellery at Christmas because that is the December birthstone.

Antique jewellery also offers something different that you are not going to see on the high street – something with a bit of history and character.

'Earrings and cufflinks are popular presents. The nice thing about buying jewellery as a present is that often it is a treat that somebody wouldn't necessarily buy themselves.'

'Earrings and pendants are always good presents, and they can make nice additional presents too.

'Everyone likes a bit of sparkle at Christmas.

'There is such a range of prices with jewellery that it means you do not have to break the bank. We have a wide range of jewellery – secondhand, antique and modern of varying price ranges.'

'We find that many people like to buy hampers full of Norfolk products to take to their friends and family in other parts of the country.

'We make up hampers to order and they can be filled with a range of products including local fruit and vegetables, honey, preserves and flour.'

David Kingsley, above, one of the directors of men's clothes store Hatters, in White Lion Street, Norwich. 'Accessories make brilliant gifts, and we have some unusual Paul Smith wallets, bags, scarves and socks that would be great presents.'

Beckie Kingsley, manager of Ginger, in Timberhill, Norwich. 'We have some very nice and quite luxurious sheepskin boots from Love from Australia which have a great fashion edge to them. We also have some great accessories from Paul Smith and Armani.'
