A budding team of entrepreneurial fundraisers put their business skills to the test at a Norwich charity shop in a national store wars contest.

Staff from finance and accountancy firm KPMG travlled from Cambridge to take over the Barnardo’s store in Anglia Square, in a bid to boost the shop’s takings.

And the ten-strong group of fledgling Lord Alan Sugar’s smashed their target on Tuesday to raise £982 for the children’s charity. Nick Warth, tax manager at KPMG Cambridge, led the team. He said: “It went really well and we were really pleased with the result, and so was the store manager. The raffle was a particular success and everybody had a great day. It definitely exceeded expectations.”

Stock and prizes raffled off on the day were provided by several home-grown businesses, including Jarrold department store and Ridgeons builders merchants.

KPMG staff from across the country are taking part in the store wars challenge as part of the company’s two year charity partnership with Barnardo’s. The challenge, in which KPMG staff take over various Barnardo’s stores for the day, is due to finish in November and it is hoped it will raise more than £100,000 for the charity. Further fundraising activites are being planned over the next two years.
