An evening of soul music at the Lakenham Cock pub raised more than £400 for the Big C charity on Sunday.
The Sweet Soul Music event has been running at various events for five years already and has raised more than £10,000 to date.
Friends Kirk Aldis and Kev Laws have been playing soul music in local clubs around Norwich since the 1970s. In 2007, Kirk’s wife, Sarah, was diagnosed with breast cancer and in 2008 Kev’s wife, Janette, was also diagnosed with breast cancer.
Sarah was treated with chemotherapy and had a lumpectomy and radiotherapy and is at the moment having yearly check-ups, but unfortunately Janette’s cancer spread to her bones and she passed away in April of this year.
A barbecue, raffle and a duck race were all part of the family fun day and Mr Aldis was delighted with how it went.
He said: “We weren’t expecting to raise that sort of money but a good 200 people turned up.”
