Pupils in one part of Norwich will soon be swapping calculators for crime prevention.
A hard-hitting Shoplifting DVD created by Norfolk Constabulary is being launched for the first time in Norfolk at Sewell Park College on Tuesday, June 8.
Shoplifting: We All Pay the Price is aimed at 11-14 year olds and warns them about the consequences of shoplifting and how it can affect their lives and careers.
Year 8 pupils will watch the short film and use the youth engagement pack in a lesson where they will rate shoplifting as a crime and discuss the topic.
It shows how two youngsters make a wrong decision in a local store and find themselves speaking with police officers about their actions. Figures show that the majority of shoplifters are aged between 10 and 17, most of whom do not realise they become criminalised by shoplifting.
PC Jane Scott who is a School Liaison Officer from Mile Cross, Catton and Fiddlewood Safer Neighbourhood Team said 'This is a fantastic initiative which will hopefully deter any potential shoplifters from thinking about committing the crime.'
