The Joker and his nemesis Batman, the Doctor and his arch-enemies the Daleks, and a whole range of other characters, both good and bad, descended on the UEA earlier this month.

Among them were some stars from popular TV show Red Dwarf as the Norwich Sci-Fi Club held a convention.

More than 2,000 people attended Nor-Con on Sunday, September 11, to enjoy a celebration of everything related to science fiction, TV, film, fantasy and comics and raise money for charity.

The event, which is thought to be the biggest of its kind in the county, raised 4,500 which was split between Help for Heroes, The Lionman and Help an East Coast Child.

Among the biggest crowd- pullers were stars from Red Dwarf Chris Barrie, who played Rimmer, Norman Lovatt, who played Holly, and Robert Llewellyn, who played Kryten.

Julie Potter, who helped organise Nor-Con, said: 'The queues were unbelievable throughout the day. They were really, really busy.'

'Robert Llewellyn, Chris Barrie and Norman Lovatt did a question and answer session on stage for just over an hour, and the whole of the area of the UEA came to a standstill for that.'

Other popular visitors included Sophie Aldred, a former Doctor Who companion, illustrator Barry Kitson and comic book writer Simon Furman.

It was the second time the Norwich Sci-Fi Club had held Nor-Con. It was originally known as the Norwich Sci-Fi Festival, but the original organisers decided to discontinue it in 2010.

Mark Dean, chairman of the Norwich Sci-Fi Club, said: 'We have started to get a reputation for putting on a good show and looking after everyone. We have had some overwhelmingly good comments.'

The club will be hoping to build on their success next year, with the small organising team already working on it.

Mrs Potter said: 'We were talking about Nor-Con 2012 before we got to the day of 2011.

'There is a lot of organisation required and we are already on the way for planning next year.'
