A Norwich business has been saying a big thank you today to all its customers who helped them do 'something funny for money' this red nose day, raising thousands of pounds.

Sainsbury's Pound Lane branch in Thorpe St Andrew raised over 5000 for Comic Relief 2011 during March.

Linda Andrews, PR for the store, said: 'The atmosphere in the store was fantastic and customers and local organisations were keen to get into the spirit of Red Nose Day.

'It is reassuring to know that customers were so generous especially during this time of financial restrain.

'We thank everyone who donated sincerely, as we are delighted to say it is the store's best fund ever raising year to date for Comic Relief to date.'

Local businesses also gave generously to a grand raffle, which customers bought tickets for, and many customers also paid 1 to tip a can of baked beans over Chris Mullender, a deputy manager, whilst he sat in a bath full of beans on Friday, March 18th.

Pupils from Eaton Hall School in the west of the city, came in store and bag packed to raise money, as did Acks Own Sea Scouts of Thorpe St Andrew and first Brundall Guides.
