A group of brave quizzers have taken on TV's brightest brains, The Eggheads.

Stuart Pointer, Edmund Ramsdale, Chris Ayto, Dave Waters and Alex Lee made up 'The Blackadders.'

The team name comes from Edmund Ramsdale's private garden pub called The Blackadder where he holds quiz nights with his friends.

The challengers auditioned for the show one year ago, and the episode which was filmed in March 2014, will be broadcast on BBC 2 tonight.

Team member Stuart Pointer, said: 'It was an absolutely superb experience for the lot of us, the producers of the show looked after us very well. They paid for us to go up to Glasgow where the show was filmed. They film several shows through the whole day and we were the first up which was very exciting and most of all we didn't shame ourselves.'

Eggheads is a TV quiz show which pits a team of five eggheads made up of highly regarded and game-show champions against a team of five challengers who attempt to beat them through a series of rounds.

The Blackadders first auditioned for the show in 2009.

Mr Pointer, said: 'We were told we were one of the best auditions they had at that point but then Eggheads changed their production company, moved to Glasgow, and appeared to lose our audition tape.

'We left it a few years before applying again, we didn't hear anything for six months, then they tried to contact me when I was working for Aviva in India in 2013, so we had to wait a couple of months before I could get back to the UK and audition.

'It was certainly a long process from our original application to finally filming it.'

The guys have remained tight lipped about the outcome and viewers will have to tune into BBC 2 at 6pm tonight, to find out how they performed.'
