Norwich pub The Norkie raised more than 1,600 for charity through a charity auction that saw many of its regulars walk out with much less body hair then they walked in with.

Landlord and lady, Ronnie and Heather Burton, organised the auction in memory of Heather's cousin's son Lee Elwell, who had muscular dystraphy and died at the age of 23, four years ago.

The money was raised for East Anglia's Children's Hospice (EACH) in Quidenham, as it was one of the hospices that played a big part in Lee's life.

Owners Ronnie and Heather, 59 and 54 respectively, have been at The Norkie, in Bowthorpe, for just over 18 months and had already raised 700 for EACH and were hoping to double that amount.

A grand total for the auction of 1,650.60 more than trebled the total though, to the delight of Heather, saying: 'It went really well. It's one of the biggest events we've held and it really did go well.

'We had a lady here who does waxing and brought all her gear down with her. She raised 417 just from that so that was quite amazing.'

Among the services on offer for the auction were vouchers for local businesses, tradesman offering their time and one man even had his company's name tattooed on his backside for 150.

There was also a raffle with lots of different prizes and a human fruit machine, making for a fun day that was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Heather added: 'I'm absolutely thrilled that we raised so much because I know that from an early age that were it not for them (Quidenham) then his life would just not have been the same.

'Some people that come in here regularly had lost grandsons to muscular dystraphy as well so it really seemed to be something people could relate to.'
