City centre drug and prostitution problems have been reduced thanks to the work of police and people living in the area.

The City Centre Safer Neighbourhood Action Panel (SNAP) had prioritised the area surrounded by Rose Lane, the Lady Julian Bridge and King Street, in a bid to tackle the issues.

The group's next public meeting, which they are urging local people to go to, will be told how they plan to clear the graffiti in Rose Lane car park with the help of a class of Notre Dame High School students.

Julian Foster, chair of the panel, said: 'On Monday, May 24, we have planned a paint-off day when one whole class of about 25 students from Notre Dame High School will give us an afternoon when they will make themselves available to paint-off the graffiti and leave the car park in pristine condition for its legitimate regular users.

'This is being facilitated for us by Simon Duckworth, our liaison officer with Notre Dame School, who sits on the SNAP Partners' Panel.

'Additionally the management team from Tesco Express in Prince of Wales Road led by Andrew Lee, their general manager, will give a day of their time away from their store to help and support the volunteers, will inspect and remove any dangerous items from the area before the paint-off begins and Tesco will provide paint, dust sheets, brushes, etc to assist in the work as part of their contribution towards the community they serve in the southern quarter of Norwich.'

The SNAP meeting will take place on Monday from 7pm in the Friends Meeting House on Upper Goat Lane, Norwich.
