The annual celebration of Norwich's lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) community takes place this Saturday.

Rainbow colours will be flying from monuments across the city as more than 5,000 people are expected to take to the streets in support of equal rights and a safe, diverse society.

The aim is to use music, debate, sport, history, arts and entertainment to raise awareness of LGBT issues and fight discrimination.

Pride chairman Julie Bremner said: “I am really excited about the third annual Norwich LGBT Pride event on Saturday and I know that I am not the only one.

“Year on year we have built Pride into the fabric of this fine city, raising the visibility of the LGBT community through activity on the day, as well as through other related events and spin-off groups.”

Ahead of the main event, there have been a range of Pride activities throughout the city, including exhibitions and shows.

On Saturday there will be a full day of entertainment, with a colourful stewards’ dance, Question Time with campaigner Peter Tatchell and Norwich North MP Chloe Smith, Pride Picnic and the main parade among the highlights.

The 2.30pm parade will be led by the Dun Dun band and will travel from Chapelfield Gardens, down Theatre Street, along Gentleman’s Walk, up Gaol Hill and past City Hall where the Pride Scarf will be hanging. A rainbow flag is also expected at the Castle, County Hall and train station.
