A sandwich shop owner denied the double murder of his ex-girlfriend and her new partner when he appeared at the Old Bailey.

John Moody, 44, allegedly killed Karen Brown, 39, and Kenneth Snell, 65, on Halloween last year.

The couple were found dead at Mr Snell's home in Brettingham Avenue, Cringleford.

It emerged that Ms Brown made a 999 call lasting more than a minute, but both she and Mr Snell were dead when emergency services arrived.

Father-of-two Moody, who ran the Baguette Express sandwich shop in Castle Meadow, Norwich, was arrested on November 1 after the discovery of the two bodies.

Wearing a dark suit, blue shirt and red tie, he spoke only to confirm his name and to enter pleas of not guilty to two counts of murder.

Moody, balding with greying hair, sat with his head bowed for much of the 55-minute hearing.

Members of both victims' families were present and sat in the well of the court throughout.

Mr Justice Bean QC set a three-week trial for August 2. The case will be heard at Norwich Crown Court.

Mr Snell, a divorced father-of-three, was a former executive at Motorola and he and Moody were members of the Eaton Golf Club.

Moody, of Kerrison Avenue in Norwich, was remanded in custody.
