Forget summer's eye-popping colours and bright orange lips, the antidote to the bold makeup look is a nude natural look that will make your skin look fresh and flawless all summer long. Dior makeup artist Paris in Jarrold shows you how to recreate a natural look at home in five easy steps. By Emma Harrowing.

For those of you that look at summer's orange lip with trepidation or struggle to perfect the eyeliner flicks and colour blocking bright eye shadows, the classic natural makeup look could be for you.

It's a look that is a makeup trend every season and it's a look that can be easily taken from day to a night out just with the flick of a brush.

To take this natural look from season to season all you need to do is wear the colours that are in fashion. This summer pinks and peach shades are top of the bill, so choose a colour palette that best suits your skin tone. In simple terms if you have a cool skin tone (your skin has a pinky tinge to it) pink will suit you. For those with a warm skin tone (your skin has a yellow tinge to it) peach tones will suit you better.

The key to this look is for you to look like you are wearing little or no makeup, therefore the emphasis is on defining and correcting to create a flawless face.

So how can you create this youthful, dewy look for summer? Dior makeup artist Paris at Jarrold gives his top tips and a step-by-step guide.

Get the look

Step 1: Preparation

Prepare the skin by cleansing, toning and moisturising the skin. Use a skin flash balm or primer on the face after moisturising as this will act as a base to your makeup and give you a dewy finish.

Step 2: The base

Use a foundation that suits your skin type and matches your skin colour, Paris used Dior Crme Gel Compact in 022, 35. Apply the foundation evenly over the face using a brush.

Use a brush to apply concealer to cover any dark circles, blemishes, redness and imperfections and blend into the skin. Paris used Dior Skin Nude concealer, 19.50. This will create an even skin tone and colour giving you a flawless, air brushed look.

Step 3: The cheeks

Add colour and definition to your face using a bronzer, Paris used Dior Matte Sunshine bronzer in 01. Using a brush apply bronzer to the face by drawing the figure 3; start at the forehead and sweep out and in along the cheekbone and out and in along your jaw line. Repeat on the other side of your face. Add a natural flush to your cheeks using a pink blusher with illuminating particles – Paris used Dior Shimmer Powder in 01, 32. Dab the blusher on the apples of your cheeks and blend up and outwards along your cheekbone with a brush.

Step 4: The eyes

Keep your eyes simple. Paris used a five-colour eye shadow palette with pink and purple shades that complement each other (Dior 5 Colour Lift in 842) to make it easier to create a natural eye.

First apply the lighter pink shade with a brush to the socket line of your eyelids, blending down towards the lash line. Next apply the darker pink shade with a brush over the top of the light pink to create a slightly deeper colour.

Add a touch of intensity to your eye by applying the dark plum shade with a brush to the outer edge of your eyelid blending the colour to the centre of your eyelid. Work the colour into your socket line.

Use an eyeliner brush and apply the plum eye shadow along your bottom lash line to define your eyes.

Use the dark brown 'waxy' eye shadow in the palette as an eye liner across your top lash line making sure that you apply this as close to your lash line as possible.

Finish the eyes with a plum coloured mascara; Paris used Dior Extase mascara in Plum.

To apply mascara, roll the mascara brush through your lashes from root to tip following the natural curl.

Step 5: The lips

Apply concealer to your lips as this will act as a base for the colour and will help make your lipstick last longer. Paris used Dior Skin Flash in 02, 19.50.

Define your lips with a lip liner, Paris used Dior lip liner in 573, 16.50.

To apply the liner start at the corner of your top lip and draw upwards towards your Cupid's Bow.

Repeat on the other side. For your bottom lips, start at the corner of your lips and draw along towards the middle of your lip.

Repeat on the other side.

To finish the look apply a natural pink lipstick over your lips with a brush.

Paris used Dior Addict lipstick in 260, 22, which has a natural shine similar to a gloss and creates a natural dewy look.
