A budget flight service from Norwich International Airport to Guernsey will run again this summer after it was successfully reintroduced last year.

Flybe, who have announced 24 new routes across the UK, has reintroduced the weekly Norwich to Guernsey route, which will run each Saturday from 15 May to 25 September.

It had been cut in 2008 but was brought back after a plea from holiday operator Premier Holidays.

The airport is also keeping on a new route to the Portugese island of Madeira, which will be launched on 13 May, and has successfully increased its holiday charter seat capacity by 70pc for summer 2010.

Mike Rutter, Flybe's chief commercial officer, said: “Guernsey continues to be one of our most important destinations both for Islanders needing to access the mainland and for those seeking to visit the island for business or leisure.

“We remain committed to keeping Britain on the move. With holiday bookings already up on the same period last year, we are also pleased to report a significant return in business traffic over the last six months. We will continue to expand our route network and to provide innovative, quality travel options.”

Tanya DuRose, press officer for Norwich International Airport, welcomed the news. She said: “We at the airport never wanted the Guernsey route cancelled. It has always been a popular route and we worked hard to get it back. It's a testimony to the hard work that was put in by ourselves and by Premier Holidays.

“Well over 350 seats have already been sold and we expect demand to be high. We're also excited about welcoming the Madeira route which we expect will be very popular.”
