Norwich Fitness Club members will take on hoards of zombies later this month when they come face to face with the flesh eaters on a 5k assault course to raise cash for Cancer Research UK.

The fitness fanatics decided to take to Cambridge to complete the unique endurance experience for the charity after a member of the group, Sue Hampson's brother was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

The 45-year-old mum-of-two said: 'My brother was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour and he is now undergoing treatment.'

Her brother Paul Shepperd, 47, is into the fifth week of his chemotherapy treatment, with just one week to go.

Mrs Hampson, who works in mental health and is from north of the city, said: 'We chose the charity because everybody has got someone they know who is affected by cancer, and we wanted to do something to help.'

Club members have been training at Eaton Park, near Unthank Road, taking over the play park as well as running around Whitlingham Lake in Trowse as part of their apocalyptic training.

Brad Fisher, 28, from Drayton Road, owner of Norwich Fitness Club, has been putting the 28 members through their paces in preparation for the Zombie Evacuation Race.

He said: 'Our members are never all together so we wanted to organise a fundraiser that we could all take part in.

'When Sue's brother had an operation to remove a brain tumour, we decided to raise the money for Cancer Research.'

So far the team have raised over 400 online and much more from their sponsorship forms.

Mr Fisher, from Briston, started the club in January and now runs eight classes each week.
