Up and coming designers, fashion from independent retailers and a designer fashion auction marked the end of Norwich Fashion Week 2012. Emma Harrowing reports.

Considering that the aim of Norwich Fashion Week is to bring together independent retailers and up-and-coming designers from educational establishments to celebrate local fashion, it was apt that the finale of the week brought together both elements.

In a fashion show slightly edgier than the norm, fashion degree and MA students from Norwich University College of the Arts (NUCA) showcased original fashion design in a live installation on the womenswear floor in the House of Fraser store in Chapelfield.

The work from 18 students was worn on models as they walked round the store in front of shoppers and VIP guests in two shows last night.

Instead of the bright lights and loud music of the usual fashion week catwalk show, models adorned the fashion floor using escalators and mannequin displays to showcase the up-and-coming designers' work.

The theme of show was deconstruction and construction with designs made from unwanted charity clothes from Cancer Research UK which were reinvented into fresh new designs.

Hair was created by Hooloovoo on Pottergate and make-up was by Bobbi Brown in House of Fraser. The show proved how big high street chains can support local, independent fashion.

Some of the students' designs will be on display in the window in Cancer Research UK on London Street in the next few weeks.
