Life-long Norwich fans Violet Britcher and her 97-year-old sister Evelyn Rogers first went to see Norwich City play at The Nest, the club's ground before moving to Carrow Road in the 1930s, when they were both in their teens.

Mrs Britcher, a former season ticketholder, still listens to the commentary on Norwich City games on BBC Radio Norfolk and her family has bought her a ticket for the Norwich City versus Arsenal march on Saturday, October 20.

Yesterday's event at the Warren sheltered housing scheme in Horsham St Faith was organised by friends and family and was held four days after Mrs Britcher's 100th birthday on October 7.

Mrs Britcher, who lives in her own bungalow and cooks and fends for herself at The Warren, said she could not remember the first time she saw Norwich City play.

But she added: 'I do remember the 1959 FA Cup run well. We went to Sheffield to watch the team play during that run.

'I started supporting Norwich because my brothers were football-mad, and it just carried on from there.'

One of 11 children, she was born in Horsford, and the two sisters are the only siblings still alive. Another sister, Dolly, who used to accompany them to see Norwich play died when she was 89.

Mrs Britcher's two sons Peter and Paul Britcher, who were at the celebration, said that the sisters also used to go to away games to watch the Canaries, which would have been quite unusual for girls and women at the time.

After attending school in Horsford, the 100-year-old was in service for a long time and worked as a parlour maid. She married in 1937 and moved with her husband Charles to live in Horsham where she has lived ever since.

She has two sons, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The Warren, which is managed by specialist care and support provider Circle Support, offers support services for older people to enable them to maintain an independent lifestyle.

Mehmet Yaman, team manager at Circle Support, said: 'Not only is Violet one of our oldest residents, she's also one of The Warren's longest-serving, having lived here for over 20 years.

'Above all, Violet is a much treasured friend and family member and everyone involved is delighted to be marking her very special day in style.'

Mrs Britcher was presented with flowers from Circle Support and has also received a birthday greeting from the Queen.
