Evening News readers have backed proposals that could pave the way for a Trafalgar Day bank holiday.
The coalition government has launched a consultation on whether the May Day bank holiday should end with a national day moved to April or October.
In an online poll on the Evening News website yesterday, 45pc of respondents voted in favour of a Trafalgar Day bank holiday in October, 30pc for May Day to continue as it is, and 14pc for a St George's Day bank holiday in April. Norfolk tourism chiefs have backed the Trafalgar Day plans, which would celebrate the county's connection with Horatio Nelson.
