A Norwich dance school which desperately needed shellsuits for an eighties-inspired performance has had its plea answered by the general public – following an appeal in the Evening News.

Students from the Heather Millan School of Dance and Performing Arts, on Cowgate, Norwich, received a dozen of the brightly coloured garments after appealing to the public.

And now the performers only need four more shellsuits in order to be ready for their show at the Norwich Theatre Royal next month.

School principal Heather Millan said: 'We are very grateful. People have been really generous and I just think it is so nice that they have bothered to come in and donate their shellsuits. However, we are still looking for one or two more to get the right sizes for the dancers. If you have an unwanted shellsuit, then we would love to have it.'

The eighties-inspired routine is only one section of The Storyteller production, which the dance school has been working on for the past six months. Highlights include a dance piece inspired by the Philip Pullman fantasy, The Golden Compass, and the ghoulish Spell School routine complete with witches and potions.

Performers will unveil the show on March 6 at 2.30pm and 7pm when they take to the stage at the Norwich Theatre Royal.

Mark Abbott, choreographed the eighties routine, as well as the Spell School, seventies and nineties dances. The dance instructor, of Grapes Hill, Norwich, said: 'The dance is really energetic and you need a lot of skill and strength to deal with the physical demands.'
