Stephanie and Patrick Barnes recently got married in Malta and put an unusual twist on their first dance.

The couple met four years ago, six months after Stephanie’s late husband Norwich actor Gary Higgs died. Mr Higgs, who had cystic fibrosis passed away in January 2014 just three days after he and Stephanie were married.

Stephanie’s new husband Mr Barnes said: “We had such a connection that we slowly bonded and eventually decided to be in a relationship together. I think most people were very pessimistic, but slowly our relationship blossomed.”

The happy couple married in an old watch tower on the island of Gozo and spent time walking the streets in their wedding attire talking to the locals.

During their first dance, which began as a sweet medieval jig, they surprised their guests by breaking into a choreographed sword fight.

“We picked the island because of its beauty and the fact it had such an adventurous feel about it. We took a small group of friends and family with us and hired a villa for the week.

“I think we mostly want to get across the point that no matter what, there is always a chance to find happiness again.”
