A group of Norwich climbers conquered the equivalent height of Mount Everest on their climbing wall yesterday.

Youth workers and young people at the Open Youth Venue on Bank Plain completed the 8,848m climb, while an ambitious 12-hour equivalent of the UK's Three Peak Challenge, totalling 3,408m, was also taking place.

The challenges were completed using the 12m high climbing wall at Open.

Dan Jeffrey, climbing wall instructor at Open, said: 'It's been really good. There's been well over 200 people doing the climb, with family and friends taking part, from the youngest of five to the oldest of 74. So it has been a busy summer.'

All proceeds raised by the challenge will go towards funding future activities across Norfolk, getting more equipment to help develop young peoples' skills and for future opportunities.

The youngsters doing the main bulk of the climbing were: Jasmyn Bishop, Scarlett Bishop, Jasmyn Walker, Becca Buxton, Georgia Riches, Alex Smith, Jamie Haywood, Adam Taylor, Frankie Culling and Jack Huggins, with Ben Burt, Sam Huggins and Niall Andrews are helping with supervision and organisation.
