This newspaper made it three lions on the steps of City Hall ahead of England's key World Cup clash on Wednesday evening.

Local democracy reporter David Hannant borrowed a cuddly toy lion from Langleys toyshop in the Royal Arcade and took it to the two lions at the City Hall steps which famously flank the building.

'Everywhere you turn at the moment people are singing about Three Lions on a shirt, so it just makes perfect sense for there to be three on the steps of City Hall as well.

'Two just isn't enough,' Mr Hannant said.

'What better way to roar Harry Kane and Co on to glory as they make sure football's coming home?

'And surely if England actually win the World Cup, a third lion should be put in permanently?'

The heraldic lions have stood proud at the entrance since City Hall was completed in 1938 and were designed by Alfred Hardiman.
