The chief executive of Norwich City Football Club has made a rallying call for people to donate funds to a city charity as he prepares to pound the streets of London.

David McNally, pictured, will be one of a team of 10 running the Virgin London Marathon on April 22 in aid of the Community Sport Foundation’s Sporting Light Appeal.

Launched last year, the appeal aims to raise funds to enable the CSF to continue to run projects for disabled adults and children in Norfolk.

The team, Team Norwich City, has so far raised £13,500 and they hope to get this up to £20,000.

Mr McNally, who has run the London marathon twice before, said: “My training has gone OK and I’ve done the work I needed to do. I’m really looking forward to raising as much money for the Sporting Light Appeal as we can and I’m looking forward to the day.” Mr McNally is hoping to beat his best time of three hours and 52 minutes. “I’ve really enjoyed jogging around the streets of Norwich and out into the Norfolk countryside,” he said. “I would like to beat my best time if I can, but the main thing is to raise as much money as possible for Sporting Light. It is a fantastic way of helping disabled and disadvantaged people in Norwich.”

Also in Team Norwich City are Canaries legend Iwan Roberts, Peter Waters, editor of the Evening News’ sister paper the EDP, BBC Radio Norfolk’s Helen McDermott and Stephen Bumfrey and CSF director Ian Thornton.

Former RAF soldier Craig Richardson, who was badly injured on tour in Afghanistan in 2008, Norwich City fan Helen Southgate and football club catering team members Chris Pope and Martin Colley will also be running.
