Children are getting daft with crafts this week, and giving the adults a welcome rest.

Thanks to Fiona Muller and Tim Edwards – who run ERM, a community interest company who often do unpaid work putting on events for youngsters – parents and grandparents braving the cold have a place to entertain the children, the Daft Crafts stall in the Fusion Digital Gallery at The Forum.

Children have been making crafts with a silly twist, such as a “bobbin’ robin”, a little robin which bobs on your finger, or big cardboard carrot noses.

Mrs Muller said: “We and The Forum wanted to do something for the families. We’ve had quite a lot of grandparents taking the kids out for the day, anyone can join in.

“It gives the kids something to do while the family are off shopping, but what I think is more interesting is for families to do something creative together. The children get to learn skills and make something, instead of just sitting and watch Christmas TV all day, although they can do that as well!

“They could even make their own Christmas tree decorations.”

At the same time In the Fusion Digital Gallery there are films from Norwich’s Christmas past being projected on the walls, as well as photos from the winter wonderland that is Christmas in Norfolk. The event will continue all week.

“It is based around Christmas, but the activities depend on what is chosen on the day; it is all about spontaneous creativity,” said Mrs Muller.

“I’ve had kids who made more at home, took ideas and developed them themselves.”
