A Norwich charity for children who have suffered bullying is looking for support in putting on a Christmas concert.

The Red Balloon Learner Centre on Earlham Road - which provides full-time education for children aged between 9 and 18 unable to go to school because of severe bullying - is looking for help in December to put on a huge evening carol concert in St Peter Mancroft Church opposite The Forum in Norwich City Centre.

The group organising the concert wants to spread the word to all the singers in the city, any local people with solo or other acts or who knows anyone that may like to perform something to let them know.

They are also looking for local choirs to lead the carols and people to fill the audience, they hope to get a minimum of 500 people attending and raise £5,000 through donations. The concert will be free. Local schools that would like to do a short nativity play are also invited.

Committee member Kate Mamo said: “The concert will be a lovely family evening, to get everyone in the Christmas spirit. It’s also about remembering what Christmas is all about, it’s not just about the presents.

Centre members held a charity Halloween Ball at Sprowston manor last Friday, which raised £10,000.

Mrs Mamo said: “If we don’t get funds, the centre can’t survive.

“With this charity you can actually see what your money does and where it goes, it’s local children that benefit, you can track their progress and see that it changes their lives.”

The concert will be sponsored by property company Pure Lettings and Pure Residential, of which Red Balloon is the nominated charity.

Army cadets will be helping out on the night, greeting people outside the concert and holding collection buckets.

The date of the concert is yet to be confirmed but they hope to hold it the last Thursday before Christmas.
