Norwich Castle will be a 'spectacular sight of red' on Monday as the British Heart Foundation launches National Heart Month.

From 4pm, the castle will be illuminated red, using the city's historical structure to help raise awareness of the UK's number one killer - heart and circulatory disease.

As part of National Heart Month, the British Heart Foundation is calling on people to turn red during February and take a stand against the killer diseases.

Brenda Clabburn, BHF fundraising volunteer manager said: 'This February, the BHF wants to see as many buildings and as many people turning red as possible and I am delighted that Norwich Castle is supporting us this year.

'The castle is such an iconic building in the city and it is wonderful to see it lit up in the colour of the British Heart Foundation, so it highlights our plight and raises awareness of heart disease.

'We are also grateful to Norfolk Museums & Archaeology Service for permission to use the Castle for the BHF campaign launch and I would like to thank them.'

As part of National Heart Month, the BHF has also published a survey which reveals that UK adults are failing to get enough daily exercise with nearly two thirds of people in the East of England (64pc) admitting they don't get their 30 minutes of physical activity a day - the recommended daily amount.
