A bus company could be set to move away from a controversial depot on the outskirts of Norwich - just months after getting permission for it.

First Eastern Counties had been using land close to Vulcan House in Vulcan Road, Hellesdon, for its buses for two years even though it did not have planning permission to do so.

The company finally secured planning permission from Norwich City Council last September so up to 60 buses and 20 cars could be parked on the land.

Householders had opposed the application, claiming they were being woken up at the crack of dawn by the noise of drivers' engines, their gardens were filled with fumes and dust and bright lights were shining through their windows at night.

Families said they felt 'exhausted' and 'defeated' after the bus company was granted permission - but now it has emerged First Eastern Counties could move its fleet to another site.

The company has asked the city council for planning permission to use a warehouse in Lansdowne Road, Catton Grove, for its buses and as an administrative centre.

Council officers are recommending that the plans are given approval when the city council's planning committee meets on Thursday .

There have been two objections to the proposals, with people raising concern about noise, pollution and traffic issues.
