Norwich boxer Sam Sexton put aside his own disappointment at having to miss his big fight due to help boost fundraising efforts for an ill toddler.

The highly-rated fighter was forced to scrap his British heavyweight title showdown against Danny Williams next month after suffering a freak hand injury.

But the 25-year-old was at Comfortably Numb, in St Benedicts Street, to support a fundraising event for Ella-Grace Honeyman.

Margaret and Kenny Martin, who run the bar, said they had organised the fun race night as they wanted to help a local cause.

The two-year-old, from Hevingham, has vein of Galen malformation and her family opted for private operations overseas, costing more than £40,000 each, to stop leaking blood in her brain.

Mrs Martin said: “Her next operation is due on March 3, which isn't very far away, and so we wanted to help fundraise for that.

“Sam very kindly agreed to come along and support us on the night.”

To give to the Ella Grace fund contact Steve Read on 07949 871013 or 01603 722294 or visit www.lifeforellagracefund.co.uk. Cheques payable to The Ella Grace Fund can be sent to Mr Read at 77 Salhouse Road, Rackheath, Norwich NR13 6PD.
