Three 20-somethings have taken over a sports bar in the city and plan to give it a name and new direction - but only after the World Cup is over.

Partners Jacyn Heavens and cousins Oliver Sear and Oliver Rigden have taken over Comfortably Numb in St Benedict's Street, and hope their stay will be longer than the previous incumbent's, who lasted just nine months.

Margaret Martin quit the bar at the end of May to retire, and said she had found running a bar in the current financial climate harder work than she had expected.

The new trio in charge plan to turn it into a bar/lounge with a new name - for which they say any suggestions are welcomed - and hope to attract a younger clientele who are interested in having a drink before going onto a nightclub. They are also opening during the daytime to attract punters whilst the previous bar only opened at night.

Mr Sear, 25, said: 'We used to run events for quite a while as Norwich Rocks, the entertainment outlet, so we've got quite a database and a following, so this was really a natural progression, from filling bars for other people, to hopefully filling our own.

'Once the World Cup is over we will be looking to scrap everything that was part of the bar before.

'We'll be looking to change the clientele and concentrate on the 21-30 age group and create a good atmosphere with some live music on Sundays from 2pm.

'The previous bar had a more sports-oriented feel. Obviously, we have taken over with the World Cup starting, so we won't change it straightaway. '

The Evening News has been urging punters to support pubs and help them beat the recession as part of its Love Your Local campaign.

Jacyn and the two Olivers are looking for a new name. If you have got any suggestions pop into the bar and tell them.
