Thousands of Norfolk women took part in the 13th Race for Life event held at the Norfolk Showground in Costessey, near Norwich.

And even the weekend's variable weather could not dampen the spirits of the record numbers of women of all ages and fitness levels who came together to walk, jog or run to raise money for Cancer Research UK's lifesaving work.

Four races were held over the weekend including three 5k runs and, for the first time in Norwich, a 10k event.

About 12,000 women took part in the event, about the same number as last year, but initial reports suggest that more money was raised.

Cancer Research UK's Race for Life 2010 is the UK's largest women-only fundraising event series and aims to raise money to fight the disease through research.
