A cancer survivor is getting on her bike to raise money for a charity close to her heart.

Linda Sawyer, 50, from Blofield, is cycling 400km through Kenya to raise money for three charities: Breast Cancer Care, Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action. A proportion of the money raised will also be donated to a women's cancer organisation in Kenya to provide aid and medical support.

Mrs Sawyer, pictured, had a hysterectomy for cancer in January 2010 and managed to beat the illness.

She said: 'It was very out of the blue – I was lucky it was caught so early. I have so many friends who have not survived. I want to do anything that can be done to help with research, it has got to be done.'

The cycle ride will see her pedal through the Rift Valley in Kenya from Mount Kenya to Lake Victoria.

So far she has raised 2,200 by holding a quiz night, a strawberries and cream evening and a cake sale. She aims to raise 3,000 by November.

However, this is not the first charity bike ride for Mrs Sawyer.

In September last year, just eight months after her hysterectomy, she completed the 450km cycle for Professor Robert Winston's charity Women for Women, in which she travelled to China and cycled to raise money and help support medical research for a variety of conditions affecting women and their children.

Mrs Sawyer, who works as an admin assistant, will cycle up to 98km a day with 80 other women.

She added: 'The ride includes an 18km hill. I'm cycling with two people from my China trip. I have been training and plan to complete the Palace to Palace bike ride which is 45 miles from Buckingham Palace to Windsor Castle.'
