Turning 30 is a big celebration for anyone but a Hethersett medical dispenser decided to mark the special occasion by jumping out of a plane to raise money for the East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA).

Vicky Cook decided she wanted to do something “super exciting and worthwhile” to celebrate her big day and took the plunge, skydiving 13,000ft at the UK Parachuting Centre, at Ellough, on Easter Sunday.

Her partner Jon Ireson, 36, from Hethersett, praised her for her bravery.

“I was gobsmacked just how brave she was – I could never do that,” he said.

“She’s my Wonder Woman.”

About 10 family members and friends came along to watch her skydive and Mr Ireson described her as “cool as a cucumber” as she prepared for the jump.

Miss Cook also plays the trumpet in local ska and two-tone band The Stylotones and co-organised a sell out musical fundraiser on April 16 at the Hog In Armour pub in Norwich.

Mr Ireson is also a member of the band and plays the saxophone and sings.

Local rock and pop band The Usual Suspects also performed and all proceeds went to EAAA.

Miss Cook raised a total of £840 and handed the cheque over to staff at the EAAA headquaters at Norwich Airport on Friday. She was also given a tour of the hanger, viewed the helicopter currently in use and met some of the staff who work for EAAA.

Miss Cook, of The Street, Claxton, works at Hethersett Surgery and said: “It was an amazing experience and something I’d definitely like to do again soon.

“I am grateful to everybody who has sponsored me so generously for my jump.

“The EAAA is such a great charity that does great work for everybody. You never know when you, or a loved one may need their assistance.”

Miss Cook is already thinking of setting up another fundraiser.
